Wicketkeeping to Fast Bowling

Let former Australian and New South Wales Wicketkeeper Phil Emery take you through the basics of standing back to keep to fast bowlers. In the video he explains why you need to position yourself to catch the ball at waist height rather than at your feet or near your head.

I notice no comment about the most difficult wicketkeeping skill of all, and one so rarely practiced in these days of batsmen-who-field-in-the-position-formerly-known-as-wicketkeeper; standing UP to a bowler of REAL PACE. It’s not something anyone with sense would regularly do, but its a huge positive for a team to have a wicketkeeper who can do this when the game situation calls for it, and it’s a skill in its own right.
